Low Back Pain during Pregnancy
For a pregnant woman suffering from low back pain, a chiropractor is a great resource. Many women don't know what is happening to their bodies and what is causing low back pain during pregnancy. Chiropractors can suggest stretches and strengthening exercises for your back, in addition to providing you with a clear understanding of how your body adjusts to pregnancy. If chiropractic treatments are necessary in order to alleviate back pain during pregnancy, a treatment plan can be discussed with your chiropractor.
Research shows High Percentage of Women Suffer from Low Back Pain in Pregnancy
Research has shown that low back pain during pregnancy is not an uncommon problem. A survey sent to over 1,000 pregnant women in the US in 2002 and 2003 showed that 68% of pregnant women suffer from low back pain. These women also reported that their pain often disturbed their sleep, impaired regular daily living and caused some women to take time off work. Nearly 30% of the survey respondents had stopped performing at least one daily activity because of their pain. However, it is interesting to note that only 32% of the respondents with low back pain during pregnancy informed their prenatal care providers of the problem. And the unfortunate result is that only 25% of prenatal care providers recommended a treatment for these women.
There is no need for pregnant women to suffer with low back pain during pregnancy when chiropractic care can offer help. Currently, the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association recommends that women receive chiropractic care throughout pregnancy to establish pelvic balance and optimize the room a baby has for development throughout pregnancy. Women who have received regular chiropractic care during their pregnancy also find that their labour can be easier. In addition, regular chiropractic care is an effective treatment for dealing with many types of pain women experience during pregnancy.
A Gentle approach to Pregnancy Low Back Pain
A chiropractic treatment plan can include stretches and exercises, as well as chiropractic adjustments to re-establish pelvic balance and realign the spinal column which can become misaligned due to the pressure of your growing stomach, and hormonal changes that cause softening and stretching of tissue during pregnancy. Some chiropractors use a low-force technique so there is no twisting, cracking or cracking of the spine. Many pregnant women prefer this method as a gentle way to deal with their back pain while they are pregnant.
When performing chiropractic adjustment during pregnancy, a chiropractor should have proper equipment to accommodate pregnant women. They will have either tables or special pillows equipped to accommodate her belly so that no serious pressure is placed on the abdomen.
Chiropractic - A drug-free alternative for Pregnant Women with back pain
Many pregnant women find that regular chiropractic adjustments provide relief from increased low back pain. Chiropractic treatment is safe for the both pregnant woman and the baby and is an excellent drug-free alternative for those who are trying to avoid medications to treat low back pain during pregnancy.
